Lately I keep hearing the same phrases:
“The world needs more of that.”
“The world is so dark right now.”
“Things have never been worse.”
I wasn’t here when the first human walked the earth… but history tells me dark times aren’t new.
The Black Plague.
The Great Depression.
Peasants working fields just to survive.
Darkness has always existed.
What’s new is how obsessed we’ve become with the world as a whole — while forgetting to live inside our own lives.
Lately, I’ve been romanticizing life… and I’ve been falling more in love with it every day.
FaceTiming my nephew feels like the best part of the week.
Lying in bed watching a movie or reading a book— I feel like the main character.
Cooking dinner — I pretend I’m the best chef in the world.
At the gym — I’m a regular, part of the tribe.
Walking outside — I look up at the sky and smile at how beautiful this world really is.
That doesn’t mean life is perfect.
Last week I had a flight to New York and a snowstorm came.
If I didn’t get there, I lose money.
I got there, but I lost out of two days and two schools that now are rescheduled for May.
Running a startup is hard.
I am struggling to sell a plushie.
I am struggling to get a monthly donor.
I am struggling to sell a children’s book.
I am struggling to sell my screenplay.
Sometimes it feels like I can’t do anything right.
Sometimes I wonder if I’ll always be in survival mode.
Those thoughts visit… but they don’t get to stay.
Because if I let them stay, they will bury me.
The I’ll never make it.
The life is hard.
The the world is falling apart.
The everything is against me.
The noise about how dark and dangerous the world is… is loud.
Much louder than how amazing and beautiful it is.
It shouldn’t be.
Because life is beautiful.
Every minute.
Every breath.
Every ordinary moment.
I am alive.
I am healthy.
I am here.
We forget that life is meant to be lived fully — regardless of the state of the world.
The world has never been sunshine and rainbows for everyone.
But it can be for you…
when you decide to see it,
when you decide to fight for it,
when you decide to live it.
And that alone
is worth everything.
